SOUTH WEST SCHOOLS COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Outstanding performances by Junior girls.
The Junior girls team set a new South West all time team score of 8124 points in winning the pentathlon event. These lists have existed since the inception of the event in 1988. Individual winner Lottie Richardson (Truro High) whose score of 2852 puts her 9th on the individual all time list, a national standard score. She was ably supported by her school colleague Jordanna Morrish in second place with a score of 2756 points. Alice Vage (Penair) with a powerful final 800mt moved into fifth place with 2516 points and Kiani Pay (Truro) was 7th with 2353 points.

The Inter girls heptathlon only had two Cornish competitors. Philippa Brett (Poltair) had a satisfying two days of competition never moving out of third place finishing with 3927 points. Sarah Bonar (Bolitho) in her first ever heptathlon really enjoyed the event and scored 2693 points for 19th place.

On Saturday the junior boys competed in very sunny hot weather with the team of Matt Bolwell (Wadebridge) 1936 points 10th place, Ryan Butler( Bude) 1871 points 12th place and Adam Trace (Bude) 1821 points in 13th place. All the boys improved their scores from the County event and finished 4th.
The Inter boys Octathlon saw a young team perform well over the two days. A really powerful run in the final event 1500m saw Max Holdswoth (Truro) move into the top position of the team in 11th place with 3330 points. He was well supported by Matt Tregay (Penair) 3288 points in 12th place, Ryan Penna (Truro) 3211 points 14th place and Jimmy Addy (Liskeard) 2960 points. The team were also in 4th place.

In the senior boys Phil Warwicker (Truro College) scored 4521 points over the two days of the decathlon setting several season best performances and finished in 9th place. Sadly Lee Hamilton (Wadebridge) had to withdraw after four events following an injury he had sustained earlier in the week.

The junior girls team will now represent the South West region in the finals in September at Bedford where they must rate their chances of winning the event with their present standing. They will be joined by Philippa Brett who will compete as an individual with the winning Devon team as part of the South West heptathlon squad.
