County Schools Athletics Championships.

The 59th County Schools Athletics Championships took place on Saturday at Carn Brea in near perfect conditions.

There were a total of 10 athletes who achieved National Entry standard performances and three of these were junior boy athletes Patrick Channings (Callington) winning the 200m, Kieran Westlake (Truro) in the shot and Patrick Swan (Camborne) in the discus.

Championship best performances were achieved by Jordanna Morrish (Truro High) in the Inter Girls high jump & Matt Halton (Bodmin) competing in his last Championships in the senior boys. He achieved entry standard in both the shot & discus with the discus being a Championship best performance and new County record.

Tom Rawet ( Penryn) ran a solo race in the Inter Boys 1500m Steeplechase but still achieved an entry standard. There competitive races in the sprint in both the Junior & Inter Boys with hopes of success at the South West Schools Championships to be held at Exeter next Saturday 18th June.

There was an exciting Junior Girls 800m race where Charlotte Cayton-Smith (Tretherras) just got the better of Molly Long (Wadebridge) both girls had achieved entry standard earlier in the season. Molly later won the 200m emphatically having achieved an entry standard time in the heats.

Hobie Martin (Tretherras) won the Inter Boys 1500m and will contest the distance at the SW Schools before opting to run his prefered distance of 3000m at the All England Schools Championships in July. Kiani Pay (Truro) improved her distance from the County Championships in the Inter Girls shot, being just short of the County record.
A team of 43 athletes have been selected to represent the County at the South West.
